A gym manager in Rhode Island went above and beyond to help a member out and his act of kindness is going viral for all the right reasons. Daniel Cote manages a Planet Fitness and has gotten to know one of the members, CJ, a 22-year-old man who has Down syndrome.

Cote noticed when his buddy came in one day wearing the wrong footwear for a workout and knew CJ’s routine was about to be ruined because he had boots on. So Cote decided to go buy some new sneakers for CJ from a sports store a few doors down. CJ’s caretaker, Lisa Simpson, saw the generous gesture and how happy it made him. She says the experience made CJ “feel loved and important” and “smile even wider.”

“Watching his face light up and knowing his day was made impacted me in a positive way,” Cote says. “I realized that the smallest act of kindness can have a lasting impact on someone.”
