August 22Cornwall Hospital TriathlonCornwall Community Hospital wishes to thank all participants and volunteers for making the 2009 Triathlon weekend a huge success. 2009 saw a 56% increase in participation over the two days including a 92% increase in the adult event. The Cornwall Triathlon received over 100 survey responses indicating the overwhelming success of the race. All suggestions have been documented and the committee is already making the necessary adjustments to make 2010 even better. Saturday events include a Duathlon of varying distances for ages 13 & under and a Triathlon of varying distances with a pool swim for ages 7-13. The Sunday events include 5km run, Try-A-Tri, Sprint, Olympic and Sprint Relay Triathlon distances and a Sprint Duathlon. August 31The Sears National Kids Cancer Ride by Coast to Coast Against Cancer FoundationThe Sears National Kids Cancer Ride by Coast to Coast Against Cancer Foundation (coasttocoastagainstcancer.org), is a volunteer-based organization that ensures 100% of individual donations raised through their events go directly to the childhood cancer charities they support. Martin Lacelle, a teacher at La Citadelle High School, will join the ride September 9th to 23rd 2010, riding with 42 other cyclists across Canada from Vancouver to Halifax , joined by thousands of local cyclists and families in cities and towns, where community events and local rides will be taking place. Although cancer is the leading cause of non-accidental deaths in children in Canada, childhood cancer is greatly underfunded. 100 % of all donations raised are directed towards childhood cancer programs.
