Elliott named SUNYAC Rookie of the Year

SUNY Potsdam women’s basketball player Devyn Elliott (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman) has been named the State University of New York Athletic Conference’s Rookie of the Year. Elliott also claims a spot on the All-SUNYAC third team.

In her first season with the Bears, the freshman forward was a key piece in Potsdam’s resurgence. She averaged 16.8 points-per-game during the 2018-19 season and 8.3 rebounds per-game. The averages were the third and eighth best in the conference, respectively. Elliott registered seven double-doubles this season. She scored a career-high 31 points in a 74-58 win at SUNY Canton in November 18.

Elliott is the second Bear to earn Rookie of the Year honors. Becky Race won the award, which was previously called the First Year Player of the Year, at the conclusion of the 1993-94 season.

Potsdam posted an 8-16 record overall and a 5-13 mark in the SUNYAC. The victories were the most by the Bears nine seasons.
