A teen in Texas has jumped into action to help with the fight against coronavirus and the shortage of masks and PPE in hospitals. Valerie Xu set up a GoFundMe campaign called Masks Matter and was able to raise enough money to donate 11-thousand two-hundred masks to UT Southwest Medical Center in Dallas.
Xu partnered with a local Asian American-run business in Dallas that matched all of her GoFundMe donations. The 15-year-old raised a total of $75-hundred, after kicking in $12-hundred from her personal savings to reach her goal.
“I just want to make a difference,” Xu says. “I want to show others that Asian Americans are standing alongside health workers and are willing to help contribute.”
