For the last five years, Leanne Kalb has been running the Panther Pack meal distribution program. As an employee of East Pennsboro School district in Enola, Pennsylvania, she sees students in need and works to make sure they get food they might not otherwise get, especially during the pandemic.
Donations for the weekly food comes from the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank and from people who want to give. Kalb uses it to provide hundreds of families with a range of produce, meats, perishable and non-perishable items to get them through the week. Since the start of the coronavirus crisis, the need has only increased, she says it’s “a huge need for such a small community.”
She works hard to make it happen and her efforts are appreciated by those that see her in action. “She’s got a heart of gold,” explains John Bruetsch, East Pennsboro Township’s Public Information Officer. “To me, she’s a community hero.”
