Tituss Burgess stepped up to help the church he’s attended for 15 years rebuild after it was destroyed in a fire. He and Bevy Smith teamed up to host Middle Collegiate Church’s “March to Rise” benefit concert from Bloomingdale’s Studio 59 set.
“There are very few places left that I feel personally, you can enter the sanctuary sans any judgment,” the star of “The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” said. “To say that [Middle] is welcoming would be an understatement. It fully supports and even demands that you be 100-percent who you are, flaws and all.”
Norah Jones, Ana DiFranco, and Branch Woodman performed for the benefit. And Tituss sang with the church’s choir. When it was all said and done, they were able to raise over $300 thousand.
