When Kobe Bryant is inducted into the NBA Hall of Fame on Saturday, Michael Jordan will do the honors at the request of Vanessa Bryant. He revealed that he hasn’t been able to erase their final text conversation.
In the messages MJ shared with ESPN, Kobe was singing the praises of Jordan’s Cincoro Tequila after receiving a bottle from the launch. “This tequila is awesome,” Kobe said. After MJ asked how coaching his daughter was going, Kobe complained about the game he was attending. “Hey coach,” Kobe said. “I’m sitting on the bench right now, and we’re blowing this team out, 45-8.” Jordan shared, “I just love that text because it shows Kobe’s competitive nature.” The last message came on December 8th, 2019 – 49 days before Kobe, his daughter, Gianna, and seven others died in a helicopter crash in Calabasas, California.
Kobe will be inducted posthumously into the Hall of Fame Class of 2020, along with Tim Duncan, Kevin Garnett, and 10-time WNBA All-Star Tamika Catchings. The ceremony takes place Saturday at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Connecticut.
