Rescue Dog Adopts Orphaned Kittens

A rescue dog in the U.K. is paying it forward by adopting a litter of abandoned kittens. Bertie, a one-year-old Labrador retriever, started looking after the seven two-week-old kittens just after they were found on the side of the road with no mama cat in sight.

Bertie’s mom, Rachel, is a nurse with the U.K. animal charity Battersea and she volunteered to bring the tiny felines home to care for them until they were ready for adoption. While she took care of the round the clock bottle feeding, Bertie cared for the kittens, helping them become confident and sociable and letting them climb and snuggle all over him.

“As a former Battersea resident himself, there’s something particularly touching about seeing a rescue pet now helping to rescue other animals in need,” Rachel explains. “At less than two years old, he’s barely an adult himself, but you wouldn’t think it when you see how incredibly patient and nurturing he has been.”
