Single ladies and gents, start your engines…Bill and Melinda French Gates are officially divorced. According to the court documents, neither of them will receive spousal support.
Among other things, Melinda won’t change her name and the property will be divided according the separation contract they signed when they decided to split. Since their kids are grown, there are no child support or custody issues to resolve. And as part of that, the prenup addresses the support the kids get as adults.
Since Bill is worth an estimated $152-billion – according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index – he and his now ex-missus stand to be worth around $76-billion each.
- As for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, they’re going to see if they can run it together during a two-year trial run. If not, Bill will buy Melinda out. If that happens, she’d receive “personal resources” from him for her own philanthropic work — resources that would be “completely separate from the foundation’s endowment.”
