Elementary school students gathered outside a Milwaukee hospital to sing songs of worship to a beloved teacher suffering from terminal cancer. Carol Mack of Greenfield, Wisconsin, was serenaded by 26 first through fourth grade students before she moves to hospice care.
Before the cancer made it impossible, the 66-year-old educator continued to teach while fighting her illness. In addition to her students, Mack also said goodbye to some of the parents, whom she also taught in her 45-year teaching career. “It was overwhelming and very special,” says Mack. “I hope people see how much these kids and their teacher loved each other and how our school community came together.”
Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center nurse and member of Mack’s care team, Luiza Campois was touched by the emotional sendoff. She described it as “the most beautiful, touching thing.”
